Cotton Arrival In Local Market Witnesses 11.72% Increase

ISLAMABAD, Jan 4 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Jan, 2017 ) : Cotton arrival in local market witnessed about 11.72 percent increase and reached at 10.37 million bales during the crop season 2015-16.
Meanwhile, cotton arrival in local markets from Sindh Province by end of December, 2016 was recorded at 3.749 million bales as against the arrival of 3.704 million bales of same period of last season, he added.
He said that about 75,000 bales were arrived from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in local cotton market for ginning to fulfill the domestic requirements. Despite the torrential rains and flash floods in some cotton growing areas in the country, local crop arrival was increased by 1.
Dr. Abdullah said that the crop arrival in Punjab was increased by 18.7 percent as compared to same period of last year. It may be recalled that the cotton sowing had registered decrease of 21 percent in Punjab however, it was increased by 2 percent in Sindh.
In this regard, he said PCCC would start training programmes on off season pest management to control the pest attack on cotton crop which was harming the output of the crop. Cotton Commissioner said that Ministry of Textile Industry in collaboration with other concerned stakeholders were starving to take appropriate measures to boost the local crop production by adopting the innovative crop technologies in the country.
