'Cotton Production Can Be Enhanced By Implementing Modern Technology'

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jan, 2019 ) ::Cotton production can be enhanced by implementing modern technology and off-season and in-season management.
Additional Secretary Agriculture Task Force Benash Fatima while presiding over a meeting held in connection with Cotton Production Planning 2019-20 here Wednesday said that cotton crop and its share is very important in national economy.
She said that Agriculture department will create awareness among farmers about modern technology for next cotton crop. She said that Punjab government is taking measures for the welfare of cotton growers across the province.
She said that farmers can enhance cotton yield and earn more profit by implementing modern technology and by following farmer friendly policies of the Punjab government.
Director General Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI) Dr Abid Mahmood said that agriculture scientists of the AARI are introducing new cotton varieties having more resistance against climate changes, temperature and diseases especially pink worm.
He said that off-season and in-season management is very important for getting better cotton yield and save the crop from diseases and attack of dangerous insects.
The meeting approved the cotton production plan 2019-20 after necessary amendments.
Cotton Director Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Chairman Department Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture Faisalabad Dr Hafeez Ahmed Sadaqat and others were also present in the meeting.
