Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th January, 2018) Dawn newspaper journalist Cyril Almeida has announced to quit writing his Sunday columns in the paper.
He made the announcement on Twitter.
“Some work news: suspending writing the Sunday column for Dawn. Thank you for the readership and affection over the years,” he wrote.
Cyril however did not mention any reason behind this decision.
Pakistani journalist Cyril Almeida made headlines after he reported Dawn Leaks and interviewed Nawaz Sharif where he gave controversial statement regarding Mumbai attacks.
On September 24, 2018, the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued arrest warrants for Almeida as he failed to appear before the court in three hearings of the case pertaining to leaking sensitive information.
The court also ordered the authorities to again put Almeida’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The journalist community had expressed shock over the court's decision and demanded that his name be removed. Almeida's name was later removed from the ECL.
Almeida had been writing for Dawn newspaper for a long time and never succumbed to any pressures.
However, his recent announcement has raised concerns among the journalist community.
