Depression should no more be a taboo in our society. This was stressed by the Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Oct, 2017 ) :Depression should no more be a taboo in our society. This was stressed by the Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan.

He was speaking during a panel discussion at the Department of Psychology, University of Karachi, on Thursday in connection with the World Mental Health Week. The Vice-Chancellor was of the view that psychological disorders ruin a person's capabilities.

He said that there must be a purpose of one's life. Whenever we will take the wrong path to achieve our goals, it will only create complications and we will become psychological patients due to it.

A healthy body needs a healthy mind, every person should strive to resolve problems but when he surrenders himself, he develops psychological issues. Psychological disorders ruin a person's capabilities, the Vice-Chancellor added.

`Depression should no more be a taboo in our society, its affecting the mental health of our youth, it must be treated as a serious thing.

Parents must educated their children, how to get rid of depression and give them such conducive environment', Dr.

Ajmal remarked. `A society having anxiety and confusion, can never progress and its tolerance level becomes low. Hard work is key to avoid all psychological issues', added the Vice Chancellor. Dr.

Uzma Ambareen said that people having symptoms of depression must consult psychiatrists before its too late. Saadia Qureshi from Aman Foundation said that a youngster comes to us for counseling when he/she is already passed through phases of depression, a lot of issues including domestic problems, fight between parents and disturbed marital life are the root causes of depression among youth.

It's our collective responsibility to keep our youth away from depression.
