Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Directs ACs To Remove Unapproved Size Election Publicity Material

The Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi has directed the Assistant Commissioners (ACs) to take action in accordance with the law on violation of Code of Conduct (CoD) issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for upcoming general election 2018.
RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2018 ) :The Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi has directed the Assistant Commissioners (ACs) to take action in accordance with the law on violation of Code of Conduct (CoD) issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for upcoming general election 2018.
According to Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Dr. Umer Jehangir, the administration is removing unapproved size banners and posters displayed by political parties and election candidates.
ECP had issued a CoD to set the size of portraits at 2x3, banners at 3x9 feet, posters 18x23 inches and handbills should not be larger than 6x9 inches. There is also a ban on the use of panaflex banners and posters as well as wall-chalking.
On the directives of the DC, who is also the officer appointed by ECP to monitor general election, the assistant commissioners are visiting different areas of the district. The DC had issued strict orders that all oversized political signboards, banners and posters be removed.
The administration has warned the candidates that a report of the violations will be sent to the ECP. The operation will be conducted on daily basis till the completion of the general election and no relaxation will be given to anyone.
According to District Election Commissisoner, Rawalpindi Saleem Akhtar, the CoD was issued for general election 2018 and now the authorities concerned are taking action in accordance with the law.
Banners, posters and billboards of different political parties and candidates which were displayed in violation of the CoD are being removed, he added.
Dr. Umer Jahangir has also directed the monitoring officers including Assistant Commissioner, Headquarters, Ashar Iqbal, AC Cantt, Ambar Gilani, AC Saddar, Tasneem Ali Khan, AC Gujar Khan, Mahreen Faheem, AC Kahuta Ansar Hayat, AC City, Liaquat Ali, AC Kotli Sattian, Taxila and Kallar Syedan to ensure implementation of election CoD in their respective areas in Rawalpindi district.
The officers should immediately report any violation of the CoD to the respective AC, he said adding, the officers should report the unapproved size publicity material, billboards, hoardings, stemmers, panaflexes and banners. Removal of such publicity material is responsibility of the AC concerned, he added.
Dr. Umer further said on second violation, the case should be reported to district monitoring officer who would initiate legal action against the candidate.
He told that AC Headquarters has been nominated focal person by local administration and in case of any problem the monitoring officers can contact the focal person.
