DGHS Punjab rolls out healthcare transformation, ensures top-quality services reach doorsteps as Part of CM’ s revamp agenda

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jul, 2025) Director General Health Services (DGHS), Punjab, Dr. Muhammad Khalil Ahmad, Sunday reaffirmed his commitment to providing state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and awareness programs, which remain a top priority of the Chief Minister of Punjab as part of ongoing revamping efforts.

In a recent exclusive interview with ptv, Dr. Muhammad Khalil Ahmad outlined the province's ambitious plans to transform healthcare delivery as part of the Chief Minister’s revitalization strategy.

Dr. Khalil emphasized that the goal is not just to improve healthcare access but to ensure top-tier services reach the citizens, especially in underserved areas.

“Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and services to every citizen, directly at their doorstep,” he stated. This initiative, he added, is being driven by a robust plan to upgrade existing healthcare infrastructure and expand outreach efforts.

A major focus of the healthcare overhaul is the revamping of over 2,500 Basic Health Units (BHUs) across the province. These BHUs are being transformed into modern, state-of-the-art facilities designed to provide the best healthcare services at the grassroots level, he mentioned.

“We are renovating these centers with cutting-edge technology, ensuring that our citizens receive the highest standard of care. These upgraded facilities will feature modern infrastructure, advanced medical equipment, and highly trained staff,” Dr. Khalil explained.

Alongside this, young doctors are being recruited to join the healthcare workforce, ensuring fresh talent and expertise are infused into Punjab’s healthcare system. To further enhance service delivery, the DGHS is also outsourcing key services based on merit to guarantee quality and efficiency.

In addition to infrastructure upgrades, the DGHS Punjab is implementing Wheel-on Clinics and expanding Field Hospitals to ensure healthcare reaches remote areas, he highlighted.

These more than 911 mobile clinics are set to provide comprehensive medical care in even the most isolated regions, with services ranging from routine consultations to emergency interventions, adding, 32 filed hospitals also reaching all deserving.

The DGHS is also prioritizing nutrition, breastfeeding Hepatitis, Dengue, Malaria and Polio awareness programs as part of its community outreach efforts.

“Educating families on the importance of proper nutrition and breastfeeding is critical in promoting long-term health and combating malnutrition,” Dr. Khalil noted.

Through these programs, the DGHS is empowering mothers with the knowledge and resources to support their children’ s health from birth.

Dr. Khalil also highlighted the crucial role of 40,000 Lady Health Workers (LHW s) in improving healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved communities.

These workers will be pivotal in spreading awareness about viral diseases, maternal health and nutrition.

"We are also focusing on public awareness programs, particularly around hygiene and prevention of viral diseases, with targeted campaigns in places like roadside barber shops and markets," he added.

A significant aspect of the healthcare initiative is the establishment of a CM Monitoring Unit, which will oversee healthcare delivery from district to provincial levels, he noted.

Strict monitoring protocols have been put in place to ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in healthcare services throughout Punjab, he concluded.
