An awareness walk to mark the World Diabetes Day was held here on Tuesday under the auspices of District Health Authority
FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Nov, 2017 ) :An awareness walk to mark the World Diabetes Day was held here on Tuesday under the auspices of District Health Authority. Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani led the walk which was also participated by CEO District Health Authority Dr.
Zafar Abbas, DHOs Dr. Asif Shehzad, Dr. Asfand Yar, Doctors, Para Medical Staff, Lady Health Workers and representatives of civil society. The walk started from District Council Chowk and concluded at Kutcheri Bazaar Chowk after passing through Khaleeq Qureshi Chowk and Faisalabad Press Club.
The participants of walk were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans of adopting precautionary measures against diabetes. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the aim of observing the world diabetes day was to create awareness among the people regarding preventive measures against diabetes.
He said that positive results could be achieved with the role of media for creating awareness among the people about diabetes. He said that protection against diabetes and measures for controlling the disease were among the priorities of the District administration.
CEO DHA said that signs and symptoms of diabetes were excessive passing of urine and polyphagia like more appetite, general weakness, weight loss, body aches while disease complications included gangrene of hands or feet, affects on brain, heart, kidneys and blood vessels.
He said that reasons behind the rise of diabetes were use of increasing trend of junk and fast food, soft drinks, smoking, overweight, obesity, physical inactivity, stress and depression and lack of periodic checkup of blood sugar level.
