Dialogue on "Indus Telemetry-Delivering on National Water Policy" held

Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) in collaboration with International Water Management Institute (IWMI) Tuesday organized a Dialogue Workshop on "Indus Telemetry- Delivering on National Water Policy".

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Oct, 2018 ) :Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) in collaboration with International Water Management Institute (IWMI) Tuesday organized a Dialogue Workshop on "Indus Telemetry- Delivering on National Water Policy".

PCRWR and IWMI are jointly undertaking a project for the monitoring of four main canals in four provinces of Pakistan through GSM based telemetry system.

The event was attended by Indus River System Authority (IRSA) members, Federal Flood Commission, Federal Water Management Cell and representatives from think tank organizations based in Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman Federal Flood Commission Engineer Ahmad Kamal apprised that installation of telemetry system on major surface water streams is the top most priority of Ministry of Water Resources.

He also informed that Turkish and Japanese international corporation agencies are submitting proposals to install 64 telemetry systems across the country.

The Chairman PCRWR, Dr. Mirza Habib Ali remarked that this dialogue is very important to resolve technology related issues and questions of stakeholders about the Indus Telemetry.

This is the only way to successfully diffuse this very important technology in Pakistan.

Director General PCRWR, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf said that it is crucial to ensure authenticity of canal water discharge data to resolve many water governance issues faced by the country.

IWMI country Head, Dr.Arif Anwar gave a detailed presentation about the progress on Indus Telemetry.

He said only through dialogue and sufficient technology support it is possible to manage this huge water resource.
