The WAPDA has decided to give a key role to Pakistani engineering companies for the consultation work of the two dams.
Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th October, 2018) The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has made an important decision regarding the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.
The hurdles created by India in the way of foreign funding will now be removed.
The WAPDA has decided to give a key role to Pakistani engineering companies for the consultation work of the two dams.
This will be a huge step forward in terms of technical self-reliance.
Pakistan used to rely on international consultancy firms for development projects. The work on the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams will begin from 2019.
WAPDA has also announced to give the construction contract to local engineering firms for the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.
Sources said that Pakistan will become independent in technology and economic arenas with this decision. The local engineering companies have a golden chance to prove their competency.
In the past, international companies were given the role in the construction of dams and their restoration work. The capacity of local engineering companies could not be increased because of this.
However, this time around, the international companies will be contacted only upon need while the rest of the work will be done by local firms.
