LAHORE, Jan 6 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 06th Jan, 2017 ) : Drive against dumper trucks is underway with an aim to control the increasing rate of accidents. DIG Traffic Punjab, Farooq Mazhar had launched a special campaign last month on directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, in which 8218 dumper trucks were checked throughout the province.
Due to incomplete documentation, 3804 dumper trucks were challaned, 81 poorly maintained trucks were stopped to operate, while cases were also registered against 22 truck owners. It was also identified in the campaign that about 60 percent of the trucks operating in Punjab were actually registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
During checking, dumper truck owners were advised to keep the fitness and documentation of the vehicles well-maintained and to only allow license holder and experienced drivers to drive the vehicle; otherwise strict legal action will be taken against owners.
A campaign against oil tankers and trailers is also going on, in which 13549 oil tankers and trailers were challaned in Punjab and warnings were issued to vehicles repeatedly violating the traffic rules.
