Earth Day Observed At University Of Agriculture Faisalabad

Experts at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Monday stressed the need for stepping up efforts to fight environmental hazards, preserve nature and save the world from devastating effects of climate changes
UAF's Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences took out a rally to mark the Earth Day, which started from the Institute and ended at Iqbal Auditorium.
Leading the walk, Institute Director Dr Javed Akhtar said that it was a need of the hour to sensitize people about the environmental issues. He said that we would have to create public momentum to mitigate greenhouse emissions, increase tree cover, reduce pollution and protect endangered species.
He said that the government initiative of 'Green and Clean Pakistan' is a hallmark which would produce the required results.
Director Environment Protection Agency Shaukat Hayat said that Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Director ORIC Dr Zahir Ahmad Zahir stressed the need to keeping the planet safe from pollution.
Meanwhile, a poster contest was also arranged to mark the Earth Day. As many as 50 students participated in the contest. The first position was shared by Imdad Hussain and Azhar Hussain, while the second position was shared by Humaisa and Zilwa while Aqsa Naseem won the third position.
