Election Commission of Pakistan deny receiving any complaints regarding non receipt of Form 45 and kicking off poling agents

Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on Wednesday informed by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that they had not received any complaint against the non receipt of Form 45 and kicking off polling agents from the polling stations during the recent general elections.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Oct, 2018 ) :Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on Wednesday informed by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that they had not received any complaint against the non receipt of Form 45 and kicking off polling agents from the polling stations during the recent general elections.

The committee meeting chaired by Chairperson Senator Sassui Palijo at Parliament House Islamabad was briefed about failure of Result Transmission System (RTS) and other issues.

ECP apprised the committee that the elections staff was imparted proper training to handle RTS system and other issues.

Rejecting the reports of alleged kicking up of polling agents, the committee was told that the candidates those were interested in recounting were provided facilities while runner ups who fulfill requirements were also provided required facilities.

He said Result Transmission system (RTS) was prepared by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

ECP official further informed the committee that unluckily RTS on night of general elections was became slow and results were delayed The member of the committee Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi said that ECP knew that RTS system was not reliable after conducting the by polls in Peshwar NA 4 and Chakwal PP 20 that the result of RTS was not accordingly but system was not improved and finally every one was in shock when RTS was totally failed in general elections.

He said results of general elections were delayed for two to three days and ECP admitted that system was faculty adding that it's an issue that has put question mark on the transparency and fairness of the July general elections.

The committee members said RTS controversy came to the surface when results of the elections were abruptly stopped around midnight after the daylong polling and later ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad appeared on tv screens and informed the perplexed nation that the RTS had "collapsed." The ECP was now returning to the traditional and manual method of tabulating the results and, therefore, there could be an inordinate delay in the announcement of the unofficial results.

The committee said during different meetings before the elections we stressed on that point that the system was not reliable and ECP should took concrete steps but ECP officials said they are satisfied with the system and back up system is available.

The committee members said form 45 which was necessary according to law was not provided to polling agents and there was no space for the signatures on the form 45 which is against the law.

The committee members also agreed on that points that committee would provide recommendations for coming general elections.

Free and Fair Election Network Fafen's Sarwar Bari stressed improving election process and addressing complaints. He said the main reason of RTS failure was absence of 3g and 4g facilities in some areas of the country.

Minister of state for parliamentary affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said overseas Pakistanis are back bone of country economy and PTI government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, have already provided them the right to franchise.
