Elements Involved In Polls Rigging To Be Arrested Immediately: DRO

MUZAFFARABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th july,2016) : District Returning Officer (DRO) Mian Arif Wednesday said adequate measures had been taken to ensure free, fair and transparent polling and warned that the elements found involved in rigging would be arrested immediately. "The elements found involved in any kind of rigging at the polling stations will be arrested and legal action will be taken against them," he said while addressing a news conference alongwith Deputy Commissioner Masood-ur-Rehman and Senior Superintendent of Police Riaz Bukhari. He said 40 magistrates had been assigned to perform election duty to ensure prompt action against the elements creating disturbance in smooth, peaceful and transparent conduct of the elections.
The DRO said 120 polling stations, out of total 556, were sensitive in all four Constituencies of the district , where around 2,69,666 voters would cast their vote with the assistance of 2,820 polling staff. He said as many as 45 candidates were contesting the elections for four seats of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly (AJKLA)) from Muzaffarabad district. He urged the media to avoid airing unauthentic results, adding that polling staff had been directed to start vote-counting process after the closing time irrespective of any agreement between polling agents of the candidates to close polling before time due to one reason or the other.
