Entrepreneurship Education Can Alleviate Poverty

LAHORE, Feb 8 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 08th Feb, 2017 ) : Inclusion of entrepreneurial theme in educational syllabus and motivating the students towards this potential sector can help alleviate poverty from the country.
Experts expressed these views at provincial conference on "Inclusion of Entrepreneurial Theme in Educational Syllabus: the way forward to Inclusive, Tolerant, Peaceful and Prosperous Pakistan" organized jointly by Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Mustaqbil, an indigenous non-profit organization, at FPCCI Regional office on Wednesday.
Office-bearers of chambers of commerce and industry (Punjab), FPCCI and representatives from associations of trade and industry, academia, research institutions, public varsities, educationists, technical and vocational institutes and media persons attended the event.
The speakers were of the view that promoting entrepreneurship among students would prompt them to think of their own businesses instead of relying on search for a job in private or public sector after completing their education.
Former VC of Lahore Garrison University, Dr. Prof. Jamil Anwar said that 90 per cent of the educational syllabus in Pakistan was based on theory and only 10 per cent was practical.
He urged the government to introduce entrepreneurship concepts in the educational system.
FPCCI Regional Chairman Manzoorul Haq Malik was of the view that sustainable development could not be possible without taking aboard the women, which were above 50 per cent of the total population of the country.
Mustaqbil President Rahat Babar stressed the need for widely imparting entrepreneurship education to young generation to compete with the fast changing and advanced world, for which inclusion of entrepreneurship as subject in the educational syllabus was inevitable.
Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) President Shazia Suleman also urged the government to focus on the idea of entrepreneurship among male and female students at all levels. The speakers also called for reducing the burden of textbooks from the students.
Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Mass Communication Head Dr. Anjum Zia, GCU Lahore Associate Professor Dr. Noman Aftab, Loralai University VC Prof. Dr. Abdullah Khan also spoke on the occasion.
