Environmental Changes Bringing About Water Crisis: MNSUA VC

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Nov, 2018 ) ::Environmental changes were bringing about water crisis across the globe as degradation in lakes and rivers was adding to water woes, said Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture VC Dr Asif Ali.

He stated that linkage of floodplain area with rivers restoration of wet land area besides new foresting are the steps which should be taken to address the issue.

Dr Asif Ali was speaking at a training workshop titled "Social Anti gradation Outreach Programme" held under the auspices of Agronomy department and HEC.

Balance in water cycle will not only be strengthened in this way but also it will leave positive impact on human health.

The other speakers underscored the importance of water in light of Hadith.

They informed, "Population of the country is growing very rapidly while we are wasting water by using it in the fields for crops openly." They urged farmers to use modern methods of cultivation to stop wastage of water.

Around 95 per cent of water is used for agriculture in the country, they said and added that up to 40 per cent water could be saved by using modern techniques of cultivation. On leveled land more water is consumed for crops, they said.

The spekers included Dr Hafiz Naeem Ullah, Dr Muddasir, Dr Ahmad Shahzad and others.

A good number of students and faculty attended the workshop.
