ESA initiates programme for rescuers' capacity-building

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th August, 2016) : In order to win international accreditation with International Search & Rescue Advisory Group (INSRAG), the Punjab Emergency Academy has initiated a programme for capacity-building of the instructors, here at the National Centre of Excellence.

Inaugurating the programme here on Tuesday, Pakistan Navy's Station Commander Lahore Commodore SM Shahzad (SI) Military asked the cadets & instructors to harness their instructional skills to meet international standards.

Addressing on the occasion, DG ESA Amir Hamza said that this training institute had become a National Centre of Excellence through provision of continuous technical assistance & capacity building of other provinces including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Balochistan and Sindh. He said that the purpose of this capacity-building programme is to enhance instructional skills of instructors regarding disaster management, fire, rescue, medical, and other emergencies.

The DG said that recently 14 new instructors from different provinces (4 Punjab, 3 GB, 7 KPK) have joined the Academy, whose training with the experienced hands would create a harmonious team.

He said that academy was in process of international accreditation with international community which requires our instructors should be equipped with latest rescue techniques. In order to achieve better outcomes, the guest speakers from Pakistan armed forces, law enforcement & security agencies, Punjab forensic science laboratory, district administrations and other stakeholders have been involved, he maintained. Registrar Academy Farhan Khalid briefed the DG that some officers have also been involved to enhance supervision, monitoring and commanding skills.
