EU Ambassador Visits Various Villages

SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Dec, 2016 ) : Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Pakistan, Jean Francois Cautain Saturday arrived here to visit various Union Councils of Shikarpur district.

He met with the community leaders and the beneficiaries of various EU funded projects being implemented by Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) in different villages. He visited village Samano, UC Bhirkhan district Shikarpur, interacted with leaders of village organizations and beneficiaries of the Union Council Based Poverty Reduction Programme (UBPRP).

He also briefed by the community leaders of Local Support Organizations (LSO) Mehran and witnessed various interventions funded by the European Union.

The Chief Executive Officer SRSO, Muhammad Dital Kalhoro said that in 2009, the provincial government formulated the strategies of rural support programmes and approved the Union Council Based Poverty Reduction Programme (UCBPRP) for two most backward districts of the northern Sindh like Shikarpur and Kashmore- kandhkot districts.

He said that the UCBRPR worked only with women and empowered them not only economically but also on attaining self-confidence to improve their status. He thanked the EU Ambassador Jean Francois Cautain for supporting various projects to help reduce poverty in the regions.
