The Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC) is working with an objective to accelerate research work on climate change and its impacts through building of technical and institutional capacity of national and provincial climate research institutions

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Oct, 2018 ) :The Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC) is working with an objective to accelerate research work on climate change and its impacts through building of technical and institutional capacity of national and provincial climate research institutions. According to GCIC officials, the centre organizes national and regional level training workshops with the help of international experts, provides opportunities to national climate researchers for training within and outside Pakistan and supports ongoing MS and PhD programmes in various national universities working on climate related topics.

"In recent years, training activities have been undertaken in the following areas; Regional Climate System Modeling, Crop Simulation Modeling, Watershed Modeling, Downscaling of Climate Scenarios, Analysis of Climate Extremes and food and Water Security", the officials said.

He said that the GCISC Act mandates the centre with the task of creating "public awareness about the climate change and its impacts". To this end, GCISC has undertaken a range of activities including participation in more than 60 roundtable discussions, panel discussions and consultation meetings organized by civil society organizations and participation in national and international conferences and workshops.

He said that the Centre is circulating a weekly news digest of information related to climate change to an extensive network of stakeholders and also organizing a weekly lecture on climate related subjects.
