Google doodle pays tribute to Pakistani cricketer Abdul Hafeez Kardar

Google dedicated a special doodle to the cricketer who captained Pakistan’s first Test team.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th January, 2019) Google is honouring legendary Pakistani cricketer Abdul Hafeez Kardar on his 94th death anniversary.

Google dedicated a special doodle to the cricketer who captained Pakistan’s first Test team.

The search engine has changed its doodle on occasion of Kardar’s 94th birth anniversary which shows his image playing a stroke on front foot.

Abdul Hafeez Kardar is known as the father of Pakistani cricket. He was born on on January 17, 1925, in Lahore.

He played domestic cricket for a variety of teams, including Oxford University, Northern India and Muslims.

He was one of the few players to have played Test cricket for both India and Pakistan.

He was a left-handed batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox spin bowler, scoring 6,832 runs and taking 344 wickets in first-class cricket. He averaged 29.83 in batting, and 24.55 in bowling.

Kardar captained Pakistan to victory against leading Test teams. His series-levelling victory in 1954 at The Oval is still remembered. The legend also created history by winning the first-ever and only Test against Australia in Karachi in 1957.

Kardar received the Pride of Performance Award from the Government of Pakistan in 1958 for his services in cricket.

Kardar went into politics and served as the president of the Pakistan Cricket board in the 1970s.

He died on April 21, 1996 leaving a cricketing legacy behind him.
