Govt Determines To Introduce Structural Reforms For Economic Growth

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Nov, 2018 ) :Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar has said that the government was determined to introduce structural reforms and devise sound economic policies to put the economy on consistent growth trajectory and achieve economic turnaround.
The minister said this during his visit to World Bank Country office here on Friday where he was received by Country Director WB Pachathumu Illangovan. Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan and senior officials of the ministry were also accompanied the minister, said a press release.
The minister stated that the present government was focused on improving the life of common man by formulating people centric policies and implementing welfare initiatives.
He underlined that the incumbent government was taking steps to reinvigorate the agriculture sector as more than 65 percent population was dependent on agriculture.
He emphasised that efforts will be made to boost agro-based economic activities to accelerate poverty reduction.
Developing marketing platforms for convenience of the farmers where they could sell their products without any hassle is must to spur rural economy for the benefit of small land holders, said the minister.
The minister stated that the government is also laying emphasis on quality human resource development for the betterment of huge youth population who could then contribute effectively towards the country's economy.
Noting that Pakistan ranks high in terms of population growth in the region, the minister directed concerned officials of the ministry to prepare a strategy on population planning, increased gender participation and empowering women both economically and socially.
