Govt Increases Tax Duties On Imported Mobile Phones

The government has increased the regulatory duties on imported mobile phones by Rs 1,800 to Rs 18,500.
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th March, 2019) The government has further increased the regulatory duties on imported mobile phones.
According to details, the government has increased the regulatory duties on imported mobile phones by Rs 1,800 to Rs 18,500.
The smart phones have now got out of reach of common people as the government has changed the structure of regulatory duties on imported mobile phones.
People buying mobile phones priced over Rs 4,100 would have to pay Rs 1,800 tax.
Earlier, a regulatory duty of Rs 250 was imposed on mobile phones priced Rs 8,000 while Rs 500 duty on mobile phones worth Rs 18,000.
Similarly, an additional duty of Rs 3600 would have to be paid on mobile phones priced till Rs 48,000.
The prices of mobile phones priced under Rs 69,500 have increased by Rs 10,500.
Moreover, the tax duty of Rs 18,500 would have to be paid on mobile phones priced over Rs 70,000.
According to government figures, the rate of imported mobile phones remained over Rs 847 million in 2017-18.
Earlier, the government had proposed measures the simplification and rationalization of tax structure on import of mobile phones in its Finance Supplementary (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019.
