Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 16th January, 2018) The government is considering increasing the electricity prices by 63 paisa per unit.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), responsible for regulating the electricity supply in the country, has received a request in this regard.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has made the request to hike the electricity tariff under fuel adjustment formula for the month of December.

The application stated that the electricity production cost remained Rs 6. 49 per unit in December while electricity consumers paid Rs 5.86 per unit.

According to NEPRA, the decision to increase electricity prices will be taken on January 23.

The demand of electricity has increased to 13857 Megawatt in the country while its production is 15500 Megawatt.

According to the spokesperson for Power Division, the electricity demand remained 13857 Megawatt on Wednesday against the production of 15500 Megawatt with zero shortfall.

The spokesperson said that the power distribution companies are taking electricity from the system according to their demands.

Load management according to schedule is done in the areas having power theft and losses.

The NEPRA had in December reduced electricity power tariff by 31 paisa per unit under the fuel adjustment formula for the month of November.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested the authority for a decrease in power price for the month of November 2018 due to variation in fuel charges.

The reference power generation for November remained 4.71 rupees per unit, while consumers were provided this at five rupees per unit.

The reduction in power tariff gave a benefit of Rs2 billion to consumers across the country.
