Health Minister denies any shortage of MLOs in hospitals

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2018 ) :Sindh Minister for Health, Dr. Azra Pechuho has dispelled the impression regarding shortage of medico- legal officers (MLOS), particularly that of female officers, in the government hospitals managed by provincial government.

Talking to journalists during her visit to Dow University of Health Science, at its DMC campus, she said as per rules and regulations, medical officers serving at these facilities ought to realize their professional obligations as MLOs.

"This is crucial to provide timely assistance to the victims of relevant crimes and also help them get justice without any failure," she said.

To a query, she said strict vigil would be ensured with regard to performance of the medical officers whose appointments, along with that of medical superintendent and health projects managers, would be ensured on strict basis of merit.

"There will not be any political appointments," she reiterated assuring the members of medical community as well as journalists present on the occasion that merit would be sole criterion for job in the department and its affiliated institutions.

Dr. Azra Pechuho, herself a Dow Medical College (DMC) graduate of 1989 batch said presence of significant majority of girl students in the medical colleges was a pleasant development.

"Great responsibilities lies upon them to efficiently utilize their medical training and also adequately realize their domestic obligations," said the health minister.

To a query about ongoing work on much trumpeted Trauma Centre, the health minister said certain units of it are already functional and that remaining work will also be competed without any unnecessary delay.

Dr. Azra Pechuho regretted that a particular section was creating unfounded reports regarding the polio eradication project in the province.

"No case of polio has been reported from any part of the province during the current year," she said.

Accompanied by DUHS Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr Muhammad Said Quraishy and DMC Principal, Dr. Zarnaz Wahid, she also took round of different departments of the university and assured to provide every needed assistance in maintaining its reputation of quality educationand training.
