Health ministry offering 5-day short course on 'Health Diplomacy'

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -5th Sep,2016) : A 5-day short course on Health Diplomacy is being offered first time in Pakistan from the platform of Health Services Academy, Ministry of National Health Services, and Regulation & Coordination.

Participants from the provincial and Federal government (Health and P&D departments), development sector, donors, NGOs, civil society and academia were attending the course, said a news release on Monday.

Objectives of the course are to present the field of global health diplomacy. Its history recent development and key challenges, to identify and define key concepts in global health, global health diplomacy and global health governance, and to discuss key cross-cutting issues of global health in relation to foreign policy, trade, climate change, human rights and other related disciplines.

Secretary to the ministry of NHSRC Muhammad Ayub Sheikh along with the Secretary EAD Tariq Bajwa and WR WHO Pakistan office Dr. Michel Thieren inaugurated the course and delivered key notes lecture.

They appreciated the endeavor of Health Services academy team in designing and offering this important course at the juncture when the country is to work towards Sustainable Development Goals. ED HSA Dr.

Assad Hafeez in his remarks said that the notion of "Health" has changed and evolved with time from illness and cure to modernization and medicalization of the field, and further to a more global and interdependent phenomenon with more cross border concerns, international agreements, financial implications and ethical dimensions.

With this change of paradigm and dynamics of the health sector, the nature and range of stakeholders have also changed, Health policies, health regulations, health governance, health financing and health reforms have far more global influence today.

The course will run from 5-9 September at HSA and will cover topics like Macroeconomics & Health, Negotiating for Health, SDGs, Health Governance & Reforms, Diplomacy for Population matters, Global Health Security, Human rights and Health etc.
