Housing Foundation Cannot Launch Any Housing Scheme Itself: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday remarked that the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) could not launch any housing scheme itself
A three-member SC bench headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan heard a case regarding the FGEHF.
During the course of proceedings, Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan remarked that land in all five zones of Islamabad could only be acquired according to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Act.
He observed that there was no mention of the FGEHF in Islamabad's master plan. CDA's regulations would be applied in societies established on its land, he added.
The court observed that the housing foundation started providing plots to the judges, government employees and army officers instead of giving the same to the general public.
Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan remarked, "It does not become pure public property now. Right now, we are standing at the acquirement phase in the case and regulatory phase will come next." The court observed that no land acquirement complaints had been lodged in case of Sector F-14 except for some development issues.
The defence lawyer said 50 per cent commercial plots in F-14 housing project were allotted to the CDA as compensation.
The court adjourned the hearing till Tuesday at 12:00 noon, with the directive to the lawyer representing the housing foundation to complete his arguments.
