HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th May, 2017 ) : Hypertension is one of the leading psychiatric and completely depressive illness that causing serious threats to human life. Hypertension is a silent killer that prevails among the people because of guilt of the past, anxiousness about the present and bleak about future, eminent Psychiatrist of Sir C.J.

Institute of Psychiatry Hyderabad Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon shared his experience on the International Hypertension day with APP here on Tuesday. This year the World Hypertension Day 2017 Theme is "Know your blood pressure".

World Hypertension Day is celebrated every year on 17th of May to raise the public awareness about the hypertension, its preventive measures and complications. Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon informed that hypertension makes the people to drive attention from one thing to another due to lot of stress by which they can't be able to concentrate on their Goals in a better way for fulfilling their tasks and also can't be able to achieve their Goals.

He said that Hypertension is a type of Condition by which people are silently killed without any proper reason. It shows many Symptoms like Sleepiness, Palpitation, Headaches, Dizziness, Confusion, Sensation of Ringing in the ears, Irregular Heartbeat, Difficulty of Breathing and also many other problems, added.

He said that hypertension and depression, which commonly named as "high blood pressure" is a medical condition where the blood pressure is chronically elevated. While it is formally called arterial hypertension, the word "hypertension" without a qualifier usually refers to arterial hypertension, he said.

Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon said that the objective of the day is to promote the detection, control and prevention of arterial hypertension among people. The day was initiated to increase the awareness of hypertension as there was lack of appropriate knowledge among hypertensive patients.

He informed that hypertension is the disease which is the source of heart attack or stroke with highest risk as compared to other diseases. Persistent hypertension is one of the risk factors for strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysm and also a leading source of chronic renal failure, he added.

About the classification of the hypertension, Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon said that it is classified as either essential or secondary. He said that in the past, many doctors diagnosed high blood pressure based on diastolic pressure, the smaller number.

However, new research suggests that systolic pressure is a much better indicator of hypertension, particularly in the elderly. He said that this is the day for education about high blood pressure which is the biggest single cause of death worldwide through strokes, heart attacks and kidney diseases.

In order to avert hypertension, Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon said that reduction in weight , daily brisk walk of at least two kilometers and avoid in taking common salt is necessary for any person. He said that blood pressure controls the variety of organs and body systems, including the heart, vessels, kidneys, brain and adrenal glands as well as the complex interaction between the body systems.

Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon said that risk factors for high blood pressure included the use of smoking and alcohol, obesity, taking salt frequently, lack of exercise and stress as well as the family history of hypertension and stroke.

He said that adopting preventive measures in controlling the high blood pressure is very important to knock out this silent killer disease. The patients must ensure the controlling of their blood pressure with healthy lifestyle and proper medical treatment, he added.

Dr.Memon said that like other synthetic drugs, anti-hypersensitive medication has a risk of causing side effects depending on the person as well as the type of drug being taken. These could include dizziness, nausea, stomach problems, fatigue, impotence, insomnia and loss of appetite, added.

Dr. Abdul Hameed Memon advised the people not to ignore this disease as high blood pressure can cause fatal diseases such as heart attack, paralysis, and Kidney failure and brain hemorrhage. He said that the patients of high blood pressure and those who want to be safe from the disease should keep bodyweight normal, take regular exercises, and have half an hour daily walk, use less salt, avoid fatty foods and avoid smoking.

About the prevention of natural remedies for tension, depression and blood pressure control, Dr. Adul Hameed Memon suggested that high energy levels and feelings of well being can reduce high blood pressure.

Besides, tone and protect the heart and cardiovascular system, improve circulation including chilblains and tingling in the hands and feet, pumping ability of the heart and reduce of irregular heart beat and blood stickiness can help in controlling the hypertension, added.

He recommends that everyone should have their blood pressure checked regularly, preferably yearly. While, number of special events and activities also arranged in Hyderabad like free medical advises, seminars and public lectures at hospitals to educate the people to adopt healthy lifestyle to protect these type of psychiatric depressive illness.
