IG Orders For Maintaining Law, Order On Polling Day

Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam on Saturday said it was a basic responsibility of police to maintain law and order during election and officers should perform their duties with full commitment.

He said all the RPOs and DPOs should again review the security plan on polling day in their districts and take actions and register cases against violators of law without any discrimination.
He said policemen should perform duties without favoring any political party and beyond any political affiliation.
He expressed these views while addressing a video link conference to CCPO Lahore where all RPOs and DPOs of the province participated at central police office.
The IG emphasized upon keeping security on high alert and to perform duties diligently during election.
He further advised to carry on crackdown to arrest proclaimed offenders across the province.
He said intelligence based sweep and combing operations should be conducted in various areas, bus stations and in the vicinity of sensitive polling stations.
Patrolling duration of dolphin, PERU and other patrolling forces around sensitive polling stations should be increased.
In the conference, the IG Punjab was briefed by senior police officers about security plan of election and also arrest of proclaimed offenders in their respective ranges and districts and shared that 163 proclaimed offenders had been arrested during operation carried out by special police teams in all districts previous day while intelligence based operations continued to arrest other criminals.
The IG Punjab said all available resources should be utilized to ensure peaceful environment for voters and the officers and officials deputed on security duty for election, corner meetings and rallies should perform their duties with patriotic zeal.
He said for the security of sensitive polling stations not only commandos should be deployed but also CCTV cameras should be installed.
He said the persons who were found guilty of aerial firing and display of weapons would never be tolerated.
He added that the persons who were found of guilty of violating loudspeaker and Tennant registration Act should not be spared at all.
Moreover, prohibition and ban on wall chalking, hateful speeches and its propagation should be ensured.
He directed the officers to tighten the monitoring and checking on intra districts and inter-provincial checkpoints and keep a keen vigilance over movement and activities of vehicles and individuals.
He directed senior police officers to brief the staff on election duty about importance of their duties so that they may perform their duties with diligence and enthusiasm.
