Imran Khan addresses NA after passage of FATA Reforms Bill

Calls it a big step, demands forming a committee to review FATA laws

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 24th May, 2018) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has said that it is a big step to pass FATA Reforms Bill.

Addressing the National Assembly after the passage of FATA Reforms Bill, Khan said that the losses of the tribal region can be compensated. They will now become a part of Pakistan and law will be enforced there.

Extending congratulations, the PTI leader demanded to form a committee to review FATA laws. He said that we will face problems in the beginning and demanded that a committee be formed to review the laws. He said that the idea to form a new province of FATA is not right.

Recalling when Swat and Dir were integrated into the national jurisdiction, he said that laws were made and enforced there. This had minimized murder and graft there.

He said that we would have to be very careful while implementing law in the tribal regions because they don’t currently have any system.

Secondly, the people of FATA have old local body system i.e., Jirga system that takes their decisions. We have to give them the authority so their local government system can be established and elections can be held soon.

“There has been a rift in the Parliament. We had to stage a sit-in against election rigging. We only consider Allah as the umpire.” he said.

The PTI leader added that it was our right to ask about money laundering when the case surfaced.

“He said that I am proud to have done a struggle and ousted a corrupt prime minister. My conscience is content that we spoke for the people. Was the conscience of those defending money laundering satisfied?” he added.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan attended the National Assembly session after a long absence as the 31st amendment pertaining to FATA Reforms Bill was put for vote today. The FATA Reforms Bill was passed with 229 votes in favor.
