Imran Khan questions viability of talks with incumbent govt

PTI founder says it will collapse if four constituencies are opened for scrutiny

RAWALPINDI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 3rd, 2024) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Saturday expressed his skepticism about negotiating with the current government, saying that it would collapse if four Constituencies were opened for scrutiny.

Imran Khan emphasized the need for his party's mandate to be reinstated before any negotiations could proceed.

He made these remarks while talking informally with journalists at Adiala Jail on Saturday.

“I will engage in negotiations within the framework of the Constitution, but what is the point of negotiating with a government that will dissolve if four constituencies are opened?” asked Imran Khan.

He also mentioned that he asked Mahmood Khan Achakzai to initiate talks with political parties. However, Achakzai has reportedly stated that he cannot negotiate with the military.

Addressing a question about his tendency to take political U-turns, Imran Khan remarked, “The biggest U-turn is taken by the one who chanted 'respect the vote' and then respected the boot,”.

When asked about expulsion of Sher Afzal Marwat from the PTI, Khan initially did not respond. To another question about Sher Afzal Marwat, Imran Khan said, “We will discuss the matter of Sher Afzal Marwat later,”.
