India Has No Courage To Block Pakistan’s Water: Rana Tanveer

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jul, 2025) Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has
asserted that India neither has courage nor capability to block Pakistan’s water as the
natural flow of rivers favors Pakistan.
He made these remarks while addressing an agriculture-focused event at a local hotel
on Saturday.
Highlighting the importance of modern technology in agriculture, the minister said that per-acre crop yield in Pakistan currently stands at around 30 maunds, which can be increased to 60 maunds through the use of advanced agricultural practices and tools. “Agriculture is the backbone of our economy, and its development
is the top priority of the prime minister,” he stated.
Rana Tanveer revealed that approximately 1,200 companies are operating in the seed sector,
and the licenses of 400 companies supplying substandard seeds have already been canceled. He added that a new law had been introduced, under which any seed company responsible for crop damage will face up to ten years of imprisonment.
The minister said that despite challenges, the Punjab government had distributed 10,000 tractors to farmers, offering a subsidy of one million rupees per unit to ease their burden and improve agricultural productivity.
He strongly criticized the previous government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for pushing the country to the brink of economic collapse. “Pakistan was nearly in default. Through difficult but necessary decisions, we have now restored the country’s economic credibility,” he said.
Calling for a shift in the country’s export strategy, the minister urged local industrialists to move beyond limited markets in Europe and follow China’s global business model. “Our exporters need to expand their reach worldwide, just like China,” he emphasized.
Declaring food security as the biggest challenge facing the agricultural sector, Rana Tanveer concluded that enhanced productivity will not only uplift farmers but also significantly strengthen Pakistan’s economy.
