
Indus, Chenab Run In Low Flood

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th August, 2016) : The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Tuesday said the River Indus was flowing in low flood in "Tarbela- Kalabagh" and "Kalabagh- Chashma" reaches, besides at Guddu Barrage.
According to the daily FFC report, the River Chenab was also flowing in low flood in "Khanki-Qadirabad" reach while Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej were flowing normal. The river flows and reservoir elevations indicated that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs were at elevations of 1529.40 feet and 1238.65 feet respectively, which are 20.60 feet & 3.35 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.
According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, a fresh monsoon low had developed over North Bay of Bengal. Monday's monsoon low pressure area over northeastern Madhya Pradesh (India) on Tuesday lay over eastern Rajasthan and adjoining western Madhya Pradesh (India), whereas Monday's trough of westerly wave over northern parts of the country lay over Kashmir and adjoining areas.
Seasonal low still persisted over northern Balochistan. Moderate moist current was penetrating into upper parts of the country upto 5000 feet. As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls was expected over the upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej during the next 24 hours.
Scattered thunderstorm/rain may also occur over the upper catchments of River Indus including Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore & Bahawalpur Divisions, besides, Southern Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Kohat & D.

Khan Divisions) and Northeastern Balochistan during the same period. Sharp peaks of High to Very High Flood Level are expected in River Jhelum at Mangla (Inflow) during the next 24 hours. Scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls is expected over the upper catchments of all major rivers including Northern & Northeastern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during 10th - 12th August 2016, which may generate flash flood flows in local nullahs (the tributaries of Rivers Chenab & Ravi) and Hill Torrents of D.G.
Khan & Kohat Divisions. Sharp peak of High to Very High Flood Level is expected in River Jhelum at Mangla (Inflow) and High Flood Level in River Chenab during the same period. All concerned authorities are advised to remain ALERT, watch the situation closely and take all necessary precautionary measures in order to avoid loss of human lives and damage to private and public property.
Significant rainfall events reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours, include; Multan=34 mm, Lahore (City=33 mm, Upper Mall=26 mm, Gulberg=25 mm, Taj Pura=23 mm, Mughal Pura=20 mm, Shahdara=16 mm, Shahi Qilla, Misri Shah & Luckshami=12 mm each), Malamjabba=19 mm, Lasbela & Tarbela=10 mm each.
