Industrialisation contributes to economic development

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2016 ) : Industrialisation contributes major part to economic development and prosperity of the country, said Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Vice President Syed Muhammad Aasim here Thursday.

He was addressing a seminar on the "Role of Public and Private Sectors in Climate Action", organised to explore the latest communication and engagement approaches with regard to climate change.

The event was arranged at FPCCI Regional office here in collaboration with Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD). Muhammad Aasim said that the Paris Climate Change conference Agreement was one of the important agreements in the region.

He said that climate change continues to be one of the most important global issues, confronting the international community. He said climate change was having its impact on water, agriculture, health, biodiversity, forest and socio-economic sectors.

Secretary Industries and Commerce Khalid Sherdil talked about climate shift and glacial melting zones. He commended the role of LEAD, P&D, FPCCI, ECOFYS in promoting the agenda of climate change.

Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, CEO, Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) Pakistan, said: "Poverty and climate vulnerability were intrinsically linked, and this reality makes it imperative to develop a pro-poor climate compatible development strategy for Punjab." Investing in low carbon and climate resilient development was the need of the hour.

One of the opportunities for the private sector lies in accessing vast amounts of international climate funding streams available for countries like Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, Gulzar Firoz, former vice-president, FPCCI, said that Pakistan was undergoing many climate changes which should be dealt with properly.
