IOK Authorities Issue Avalanche Warning In 9 Districts

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jan, 2019 ) :The authorities have issued avalanche warning in nine districts in view of the heavy snowfall forecast by the meteorological office of the territory during the next couple of days.
According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the avalanche warning has been issued for the districts of Islamabad, Kulgam, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kargil and Leh.
Divisional commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmed Khan, in a statement issued in Srinagar directed deputy commissioners of the avalanche-prone districts to advise people in these areas to not venture out to avoid any eventuality.
He also asked the DCs to take precautionary measures and to keep ready the Disaster Response Force, police and para-medical staff to cope with the situation of any emergency.
A MET department official said, "The minimum temperatures improved due to nightlong cloud cover. Snowfall is likely to occur in the plains and higher reaches today. The intensity will gradually increase from tomorrow."The occupied territory is passing through Chilai Kalan � the 40-day long period of harshest cold � that started on December 21 and will end on January 31.
