Iran Summons Kenyan Ambassador Over "unfair" Supreme Court Decision

TEHRAN (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / NNI - 17th March, 2019) Iran's Foreign Ministry summons Kenyan ambassador to Tehran Ruqyah Ahmad Sabu to protest against overturning a Kenyan court decision on acquittal and freedom of two Iranian citizens by the country's Supreme Court.Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said that the director of African Affairs Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry who received the Kenyan ambassador on Saturday has announced Iran's dissatisfaction over the "unfair" verdict.The Kenyan ambassador promised to convey Iran's protest and dissatisfaction to her government, Qasemi said.

The Iranian spokesman also added that the Iranian ambassador to Nairobi has also been recalled for consultations over the case.Two Iranian citizens - Ahmad Abolfathi and Mansour Mousavi - were acquitted of their sentences by a court of appeal in Kenya last year, a verdict which was overturned by the country's Supreme Court by "non-judicial interventions" so that the Kenyan Police prevented the return of the two Iranians to Iran, Qasemi said.
