Islamabad Adopt UN Enviornmental Accords To Make City Lush Green

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Dec, 2017 ) :Islamabad is 1st city of the country which has signed Islamabad Green Charter to adopt United Nation Urban Environmental Accords to make city an environment friendly and make its environment more lush green.
Cycling lanes have been constructed along the Constitution Avenue, Margalla Road (F-6/F-7), school Road (F-6) and 7th Avenue while construction of cycling lanes has been made mandatory along the roads which will be constructed in the future so that increasing environmental pollution could be controlled in addition to the promotion of health activity like cycling in the city.
Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman, CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz expressed these views during a cycling event titled Volunteers on Wheel organized at Faisal Mosque here one Thursday. On this occasion, Inspector General Police (ICT) Sultan Azam Tamoori, Secretary Red Crescent Obaid Ullah Khan, President Islamabad Bar Association Naveed Malik, SSP Traffic Malik Matloob Hussain, Civil Society and number of volunteers were also present.
Mayor said that he was glad to know that 1.8 million registered volunteers of Red Crescent were serving humanity and this number would reach 5 million by 2020. He said that all union councils of MCI had been directed to constitute volunteers teams which would serve in close coordination with Red Crescent.
Mayor of Islamabad said that MCI was working with National Disaster Management Authority so that expertise and technical capabilities of each other could be utilized to respond any untoward properly.
He further said that improvement of environment of Islamabad and preservation of its green character is top priority of MCI. After signing Islamabad Green charter, he said, MCI is taking steps to save city's environment from pollution and reduce the damages which have already been caused to the environment.
He further added that cycling all over the world considered as healthy and environment friendly activity, therefore, steps would be taken for its promotion and awareness regarding its importance for environment and health.
Mayor said that suggestions from the people representing different walks of life particularly vibrant media would be given importance as in the future opinion and suggestions of the citizens would be given importance before initiating project.
On this occasion, volunteers of Red Crescent brought out a cycle rally to promote cycle culture and awareness regarding importance of cycling for healthy environment. Show original message
