Journalist Fraternity Marks World Press Freedom Day

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2018 ) :Like other parts of the country World Press Freedom Day observed here on Thursday. The day is designated by the United Nations to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of expression and independent press.

In connection with the Press Freedom Day, different Unions of Journalists organized various programmes including rallies and awareness gathering in order to create awareness among working journalists about their rights, professional responsibilities as well as countering threats of different natures.

The world press freedom day is marked to evaluate press freedom around the world and to defend the media from attacks on their independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.

Talking to APP here on Thursday journalists of the different media outlets of Hyderabad have said that honesty, independence and objectivity should be hallmarks of all media organizations. Editor at online Indus news Khalid Khokhar said in practical life they had observed that very few journalists were neutral and the quality and strong media is very necessary in these days.

He also stressed on observation, study, consulting with subject experts and internet for writing good articles. He said that brevity, truth and simple language were basic requisites of a good article.

Bureau Chief Daily Ummat Abdul Hafeez Abid said that people want to share the information and these passions have resulted in the growth of media and television, radio and print media holds sway over the entire globe and have become effective machines of education or miss-education of the society, added.

Abdul Hafeez Abid said mass media is the most effective source of informal education and the media has such a strong hold on the society that it will not be improper to call it media addicted. He further said that now it is for the policy makers and social leaders to make proper use of mass media and the society can be effectively motivated to develop itself.

Bureau Chief Express News Junaid khanzada said that imparting safety training and extending ensuring cover to working journalist has become necessary for their security. Junaid Khanzada said that the media play an important role in society and that many changes in the world are due to media.

They said that the knowledge of communication is very necessary for development and the press of Pakistan holds significant power, added. Senior Sub-Editor/Reporter Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) Ashiq Saand elaborated about the history of Press Freedom Day and said that media is a powerful segment of every society.

Bureau Chief at 92 News HD Hameed Ur Rehman said that patronizing and encouragement of the journalist was very essential to get them aware about their responsibilities, potential and rights. Hameed Ur Rehman also called for strengthening of the journalistic bodied and special security cover should be provided to journalist reporting for conflict areas and they believed that electronic media journalist were more vulnerable to threats as should to print media reporters, added.

Bearu chief at Daily Hilal Pakistan Mansoor Mari emphasized the need of tolerance to accept the positive and healthy criticism on their mistake for making on try as tolerant and democratic society.

Mansoor Mari said that now it is for the policy makers and social leaders to make proper use of mass media so that the society could be effectively motivated to develop itself.
