Karachi City Admin For Improvement In Conditions Of Libraries

Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on Monday chaired a meeting with Council of Libraries, which decided to improve libraries of government departments
Rotary Club representative Faiz Qudwai present in the meeting said that Rotary Club would provide full fledge assistance in improving the conditions of libraries, said a press release.
The Rotary Club would also cooperate in repair work of Shah Bhittai Library, Old Golimar Library and Shah Faisal Colony Library.
The condition of Lyari Library would also be improved with the assistance of Rotary Club.
The meeting was informed that libraries boards have been installed in the district East.
Faiz Qudwai further informed that mobile units would start working in the metropolis from May 5 and in first phase five mobile units would be set up with cooperation of Rotary Club Japan.
The stories and other books would be available for the students of schools and others in these units.
The meeting decided that all deputy commissioners would select schools and areas in their jurisdictions concerned where students and children would be provided books from mobile units. The students would be able to read books in the units and the librarian present in the mobile would assist them in choosing books of their choices.
Council of Libraries Member Prof. Sehar Ansari said that there were over 35 thousand books in his own library which he wanted to donate to the city.
British Library's head Afnan Khan said that all-out efforts were being made for the assistance of Council of Libraries. He said that efforts to digitalize Frere Library were also underway.
