Kartarpur Corridor: Pak-India develop differences over number of pilgrims

Indian wanted visa-free access for 5,000 Sikhs per day to Kartarpur Gurdwara while Pakistan is so far willing to provide facility to 500 pilgrims.

LAHORE- (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News- 14th March 2019) Differences have developed between Islamabad and New Delhi over certain conditions forwarded by both countries regarding the opening of Kartarpur Corridor.

Talks between the two sides held at the Indian side of Wahga-Attari border and according to the media reports they failed to reach conclusion.

Indian wanted visa-free access for 5,000 Sikhs per day to Kartarpur Gurdwara while Pakistan was so far willing to provide facility to 500 pilgrims.

It was suggested by New Delhi that pilgrims be allowed to travel on foot from Indian border to Kartarpur site while Islamabad said it will arrange transport facility for them.

The two sides, however, agreed to continue the talks on the matter.

Both countries also agreed to expedite work to operationalize the Corridor, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said in a press briefing soon after talks. He said though differences persist on a few points, the meeting went well overall.

He said technical experts from both sides had a discussion on key matters, and that the meeting was held in a positive and conducive environment.
