Kashmala Tariq says her ‘good morning’ texts statement taken out of context

“I said unwelcoming n unwanted text messages n stalking on social media is also harassment. And then I gave examples. Media shall not take just one line out of context pls,” she said.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th March, 2019) Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment at Workplace Kashmala Tariq has clarified her statement about the ‘good morning’ texts.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce in connection with Women’s Day, Kashmala had said that good morning messages to women amount to harassment.

Taking to Twitter, Kashmala clarified that she had said unwelcoming and unwanted text messages and stalking on social media is also harassment. Media should not report her context out of context, she added.

“I said unwelcoming n unwanted text messages n stalking on social media is also harassment. And then I gave examples. Media shall not take just one line out of context pls,” she wrote.

She further said that people should not use their position of power to exploit women and ask them out for lunch and tea as it is tantamount to harassment.

“At Women’s Day Celebrations at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce today I said that people shall not use their position of power to exploit women n ask them out for lunches n teas. That tantamounts to harassment too,” she wrote in her tweet.

Kashmala had said that she receives complaints where even Naib Qasids harass women. Kashmala said that women can register their complaints online as well, adding that the complaints are resolved within two months.

Kashmala further said that women are showing extraordinary performance in all fields of life. In recent years, she said, around 40 per cent CSPs are women.

The ombudsperson said that it is imperative to empower women economically to prevent them from mental and physical abuse.
