An appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed appeal against acceptance of nomination papers of PML-N leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif from NA-73, after declaring it non-maintainable.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2018 ) :An appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed appeal against acceptance of nomination papers of PML-N leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif from NA-73, after declaring it non-maintainable.

The tribunal comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi had reserved the verdict on Monday after hearing arguments of the parties and it was announced today.

The petitioner, Sarmad Hanif, had filed the appeal against acceptance of Khawaja Asif's nomination papers from NA-73 (Sialkot), saying that the respondent did not disclose his complete assets in the nomination forms. He pleaded with the tribunal to set aside the acceptance of nomination papers by the returning officer and declare Khawaja Asif ineligible to contest election.

Meanwhile, the tribunal also dismissed an appeal against acceptance of nomination papers of PTI leader Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan from NA-72, after declaring it non-maintainable.

The tribunal had reserved its verdict on the appeal on Monday after hearing detailed arguments of the parties and it was announced today.

Zaid Latif, a voter from NA-72, had filed the appeal saying that the respondent concealed his three assets besides failing to provide details about his marriage and children in the nomination papers.

Moreover, an appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court stopped independent candidates Saeed Akbar Nawani and Rasheed Akbar Nawani from contesting election while allowing appeals against acceptance of their nomination papers from NA-98 and PP-90, respectively.

The tribunal comprising Justice Faisal Zaman Khan passed the orders on an appeal filed by rival candidate Inam Ullah Khan Niazi.

The petitioner through his appeal had submitted that respondent-brothers were declared ineligible by the Supreme Court in fake degree case. But, despite the fact, the returning officer accepted their nomination papers. He pleaded with the tribunal to set aside returning officers' decision and declare them ineligible.
