Known academician Prof Shamim Arif Qureshi laid to rest

MULTAN, , (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Aug, 2018 ) ::Acclaimed scholar, poet and former director colleges Prof Shamim Arif Qureshi, who died of heart attack on Saturday, was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard on Sunday. He was over 62.

Led by Prof Muhammad Aslam, the funeral prayers were attended by a large number of people, including academicians, writers, poets, lawyers, broadcasters, students and others held at cricket Ground of Government Emerson College.

Prof Qureshi served the education department for about 36 years and retired as director college Multan two years ago. He also worked as a principal Waliyat Hussain Islamia College, Multan.

He is survived by a wife and a son who is a medical student.

Talking to APP, Principal Govt Emerson College Dr Muhammad Saleem said that Prof Qureshi brought about an improvement in education by opening a number of colleges for women in his tenure as a director.

Known Educationist and Poet Anwar Jamal said that Prof Arif Qureshi was very popular among his friends.

The deceased was a litrary persona who had special attachment with English, urdu and Saraiki lieratures, Prof Anwar Jamal said and added that " Neel Katha" was authored by Prof Qureshi which deals with history of Saraiki.

He stated that the deceased was working on old building of Multan after his retirement but life did not permit him to accomplish this work.

Poet and Writer Mehboob Tabish said that Prof Shamim Arif was hospitalised three days ago after heart attack, adding Prof Qureshi was a towering personality of literary circles in Multan. His struggle for Saraiki cause would be remembered for a long, Tabish concluded.
