Komal Beats Laiba In Abdul Sattar Edhi Memorial Women Squash Title

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th july, 2016) : Top seed Komal stunned Laiba Ijaz in the final of the Abdul Sattar Edhi Memorial Women Squash Championship played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Friday. Additional Secretary Law and Parliamentary Affairs Muhammad Daud Khan was the chief guest on this occasion.
Former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Executive Members KP Squash Association Wazir Ali, players, Chief Referee Munawaz Zaman were also present. Top seed Komal faced little resistance against Laiba Ijaz in the straight sets.
Both Laiba and Komal exhibited excellent display of nick, cross courts smashes and drops shorts which were largely enjoyed by capacity crowd present on the occasion. Komal got the first set by 11-8 before leveling the set at 4-4 and 8-all and did the same in the second set she won by 11-7.
It was the third set in which Komal fully dominated the proceedings and did not give much time to Laiba Ijaz to settle down in the whole match. Komal Khan took the last and decisive set by 11-6 and marched into the victory at 3-0. She attributed her success to hard work and prayers of the parents.
She also dedicated her title to her mother died recently.
She said her aim is to become top ranking player of the country and represent Pakistan at international level. Laiba Ijaz on this occasion said that Komal Khan played well against her.
Earlier, Laiba Ijaz recorded five sets victory against Nimra Aqeel in marathon encounter, the score was 10-12, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10 and 11-9. The match lasted for 48 minutes. In the second semi-final Komal Khan beat Kainat Khan by 3-0, the score was 11-7, 11-6 and 11-7. At the end, the chief guest Additional Secretary Law and Parliamentary Affairs Muhammad Saud Khan gave away trophies and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up.
He also announced Rs. 5000 for the winners and runners-up and semi-finalists. He awarded winner trophy to Komal and Rs. 2000 at cash prize and trophy and Rs. 1000 to the runners-up while Rs. 500 each to the semi-finalists.
Wazeer Ali also announced Rs. 500 to each of the winners, runners and semi-finalists. Qamar Zaman on this occasion said KP Squash Association would soon organized a national Boys and Women Squash Championship on the name of Abdul Sattar Edhi in order to pay tribute to him on his services he had rendered for the humanity.
