KP Assembly Session Adjourned Without Oath Taking Of Members On Reserved Seats

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jul, 2025) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session scheduled on Sunday for the oath-taking of members on reserved seats was delayed for more than two hours and then adjourned shortly after it began.

The session, presided over by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, began amidst protests by opposition members, including female lawmakers who also demonstrated inside the assembly.

At the session, KP Assembly opposition leader Dr. Ibadullah said, "How long will this continue? It’s been over a year, and the members are still not being administered the oath. If the Speaker does not take the oath, we will file a petition with the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court to administer the oath.

As soon as the session began, PTI MPA Sher Ali Afridi pointed out the lack of quorum, prompting the ringing of bells to summon members into the chamber.

Despite the bells, government members did not arrive, leading the KP Assembly Speaker to walk out, and the session was adjourned until July 24.

Earlier, while speaking to the media, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati said, "The oath-taking process will take place when the assembly session is held. Only after entering the House can we confirm the quorum."

When asked about the delay in the oath-taking, the Speaker smiled and said, "It will happen eventually."
