KP Chief Minister Formally Launches Clean & Green Pakistan Drive

KP Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan Tuesday formally launched the clean and green Pakistan drive in the province stating that the provincial government will launch crackdown against plastic shopping bags during the ongoing week that has played havoc with the beauty of the province by not only littering but also by endangering biodiversity of the province
The CM has also appealed to citizens, local business and traders' community to cooperate with the government and start utilizing biodegradable bags, already available in the market, in order to contribute their share in the beautification of the province.
These views were stated by the CM during the launching campaign of the Clean and Green Pakistan drive organized by Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) and Peshawar Zalmi foundation.
The WSSP in collaboration with Zalmi Foundation also launched the Youth Ambassador programme aimed at encouraging youth of the province to keep their homes and streets clean.
Interested people can become members of the programmes by filling out a registration form available on WSSP website.
While addressing the participants of the launching ceremony, the Chief Minister lauded the efforts undertaken by the WSSP for implementing the clean and green Pakistan initiative. Chief Executive Officer of WSSP, Zafar Ali Shah, informed the Chief Minister that 60,000 illegal water connections have been identified in Peshawar which will be brought under revenue net adding that WSSP has recovered Rs 60 Million in just two and a half months.
While addressing the Clean and Green Pakistan drive, the Chief Minister also stressed on the need of promoting hygienic environment free of diseases. For the purpose, the government is planning to launch a crackdown in the province against open milk being sold to the citizens in the market.
The Chief Minister stated that effective steps should be taken to ensure that edible products being sold are diseases free in order to promote a healthy atmosphere and indirectly reduce the burden on hospitals.
The Chief Minister further stated that during their previous government, 1 Billion trees were planted in the province and the current government is also committed to put its share in the 10 billion tree plantation campaign being carried out by the Federal government.
"The BTAP of the previous government was criticized from many circles. We must understand that projects of public interest should be promoted and media, citizens, traders and members from all communities should all work together for the betterment of the province" While commenting on the Bus Rapid Transit project, the Chief Minister stated that currently the government is facing heavy criticism most of which is negative propaganda. However, once the project initiates, all apprehensions will fade away and people will certainly appreciate the multi billion rupees worth mega project which will change the fate and face of Peshawar.
The Chief Minister further invited the traders and business community that have suffered from extensive constructions being carried out in the provincial capital, to sit with the government stating that the government will compensate every individual that has been affected from the BRT project for Peshawar.
The Chief Minister appealed that pragmatic efforts should be made on every level to educate masses of the province and create awareness among public so that every citizen realizes their civic duties and are able to play their role in promoting a Clean & Green Province.
"We welcome constructive criticism. However, we must understand that projects and initiatives of public interest should be promoted. Citizens, media and representatives from every community should work collectively for the development, progress and beautification of our province," the CM concluded.
