KP Government Invites Proposals To Increase Revenue

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra Monday said that the government had invited the proposals for increasing the revenue of the province.

He was responding to the criticism of the opposition legislators in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly here. The assembly resumed proceedings with Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani in the chair.
The provincial minister for finance assured the House that for the purpose a parliamentary committee can also be constituted. He went on to say that the services of more experts were being hired for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (KPRA).
Regarding Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project, the finance minister said that construction work on the project will be completed till December this year whereas the formal inauguration was expected in March 2019.
He said that the government has adopted the strategy of the provision of no subsidy for the project. He said that BRT will be completed within the estimated cost of Rs 69 billion. He said that the beginning of the project one month early or delay does not matter, but quality was being prioritized.
Jhagra said that instead of new projects, the government had allocated funds for the ongoing development schemes and maximum funds will be given to the flagship projects.
He said that in past development funds were spent on specific districts, but they want need based and transparent distribution of developmental funds. He said that 50% developmental funds will be released by November 1 after which different departments will initiate work on development schemes. He said that BRT was a mega project and its completion will benefit the people.
Earlier, the opposition legislators criticized the performance of departments and held them responsible for delay in development schemes due to poor planning.
The opposition benches including the Leader of Opposition, Akram Khan Durrani and other members Malik Zafar Azam, Mian Nisar Gul, Inayatullah, Shahida, Shagufta Malik and Mahmood Bettni criticized the performance of different departments.
