KP Police Canine Unit Equally Contributing In Foiling Terrorism Activities

The Canine Unit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police is equally contributing in the ongoing war against terrorism and foiled various incidents by detecting and recovering huge cache of arms and explosive materials.
According to police spokesman, at present the unit is consisted of 62 sniffer dogs which are regularly taking part in search and strike operations being carried out on daily basis throughout the province.
The fact is that the Canine Unit sniffers dogs also took part in many operations in which they exhibited their skill and knack beyond attached expectations and thus police was enabled to recover huge cache of arms and explosive material.
The recoveries included 63 Kalashnikovs, 2 long machine guns, 13 repeaters, 202 pistols, 99 rifles, 2 kalakoves, 4 rocket launchers, 4488 rounds, 18 kg explosive materials, one planted/fitted bomb, 240 crackers bomb, 7 hand grenades, 38.
64 kg narcotics and 118 bottles of wine.
It is pertinent to mention here that the K-9 Unit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police was established back in 2008 when the terrorism incident reached its zenith. In 2009, 4 dogs were purchased as well as 4 handlers were enrolled for this unit to give matching response to the terrorists.
In the year 2013, 17 more dogs and 4 handlers were added to it. Likewise in the year 2014, 31 detective dogs were purchased and for their proper look after, 8 constables, 7 ex-servicemen and 22 fresh handlers were trained.
Moreover, the breeding of the detectivedogs is going on in the unit and all available resources are being used fortheir better look after and professional training.
