Labourer Commits Self Immolation In Protest Against Detection Electricity Bill

A labourer committed self-immolation, sustaining burns wounds at around 50 percent of his body, while protesting against a detection electricity bill served at his residence by Hyderabad Election Supply Company (HESCO).

According to police, Shafi Muhammad attempted the self-immolation at his rented house in Zeal Pak Colony here on Friday. He was shifted in critical condition to Liaquat University Hospital where he was admitted in the burns ward.
The family claimed that they live in a small rented house but HESCO served them Rs170,000 electricity bill. "Except fan and bulbs, there are no other electric equipment in my home.
But still a huge bill which was far beyond my income level to pay," he complained while talking to the media in the hospital.
He claimed that he repeatedly requested the HESCO officials to correct the bill but to no avail. Taking notice of the incident, Chief Executive Officer of HESCO Reham Ali Otho has directed Chief Commercial Officer Mehmood Qaimkhani to conduct inquiry.The HESCO's spokesman Sadiq Kubar informed that Qaimkhani had been given 2 days to conduct inquiry and submit report.
Kubar told that Muhammad's electricity bill accrued to 174,400 over a period of years and that his electric supply was also disconnected last month.
