Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench will hear a bail petition filed by Opposition Leader in National Assembly Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday
The bench comprising Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan and Justice Mirza Viqas Rauf will hear the matter.
Shehbaz Sharif through his petition had questioned the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) proceeding and case against him. Shehbaz contended that he took all steps in accordance with the law and did not commit any irregularity.
He submitted that the case was politically motivated whereas the bureau did not have any solid evidence against him. He pleaded with the court to grant benefit of bail while giving medical reasons.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shehbaz Sharif was arrested by the bureau on October 5, 2018, in connection with Ashiana Iqbal Housing scam.
On Dec 22, NAB had filed a supplementary reference against PML-N President and Chairman Public Accounts Committee Shehbaz Sharif and 12 others in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing case. The supplementary reference consists of more than thousand pages and spread over three volumes.
The NAB had accused Shehbaz Sharif of misusing his authority which resulted in failure of the project, depriving 61,000 applicants of the housing units. The NAB alleged that Shehbaz Sharif, in connivance with former DG LDA Ahad Cheema, awarded the contract to a proxy.
