LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2018 ) :The Lahore High Court on Monday set aside an Election Commission notification about delimitation of three provincial assembly seats including PP-32, PP-33 and PP-34 (Gujrat).
The court remanded the matter to the commission with direction to decide it afresh after considering the objections. The single bench comprising Justice Shahid Karim passed these orders while allowing petitions filed by voters from the constituencies- Adeel Ashraf and others.
As the proceedings began, the petitioners' counsel Barrister Ali Zafar submitted that the petitioners had challenged preliminary delimitations of provincial assembly Constituencies PP-32, PP-33 and PP-34 of Gujrat before the Election Commission through representation.
However, the commission dismissed the objections without giving any reason, he added. He submitted that neither Patwar circles of the constituencies had any connectivity nor the principals of the delimitation were followed in the formation of them.
He submitted that the delimitation of said constituencies had negated the principle of fair and transparent elections. He requested the court to set aside the delimitations and direct the commission to issue a delimitation notification while considering the objections and proposals of the petitioners in conformity with the election laws.
At this, the court allowing the petitions set aside the notification about delimitation of PP-32, PP-33 and PP-34 (Gujrat) and ordered the commission to decide the matter afresh.
