Laws to protect women's access to basic services on card in KP

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 31st Jul, 2017 ) : The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was making efforts to introduce women friendly laws to ensure their protection and women's access to basic services guaranteed under the constitution.

A workshop held here at a local hotel on "Policy advocacy and research to strengthen implementation of Pro-Women Legislation and GBV Response Services in KP" with support of Australian government and Trcaire, Blue Veins was informed on Monday.

Rashida Riffat of Women Parliamentary Caucus while discussing the need of collective efforts said that given the potential impact of Gender based violence on the lives of women and girls, several departments are working in their own capacity but are isolated and seldom gets chance to address the issues collectively.

She said the network is unique of its kind by chaining all tiers together and providing platform for consultations with all stakeholders within the reach. Shagufta Saeed Secretary KPCSW said the platform has helped understanding the complexities of processes within the isolated system and focus on finding the connecting bridges to cope the alienation.

Finding the right people for the rights based programming approaches is very important which has echoed in the network meeting and Blue Veins has succeeded in reaching right people for the illustrated cause.

Tahira Kaleem Project Manager-Blue Veins said that the network will widened opportunities through connecting members from Child Rights Movement KP, Pakhtunkhwa civil society network, CSOs, Gender Studies Department, police department, health department, social welfare department, religious institutions, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the status of women, Media, District Bar Association, Women Parliamentary Caucus, whilst taking strategic, systematic and professional approaches towards reduction of Gender Based Violence across the province and will track the response services flaws to a significant degree.

Imam Masjid Mohabat Maulana Tayyab Khan shared with the network members that the counter-narrative in today’s world for patriarchy is to provide� Islamic female role models such as Khadhija and Fathima, prominent female historical figures in islam noted� for their piety, courage, intelligence and leadership.

The network agreed on strategic plan and a yearly strategic work plan to engage in improving the response services to gender based violence survivors. The meeting also focused on discussing a way forward for access to the services guaranteed under the pro-women laws. APP/ash/mkz
